 Definition of Cellulitis

       Cellulitis is a diffuse, spreading skin infection.

Description of Cellulitis

      Cellulitis is a skin infection that sometimes accompanies damage to the skin, poor circulation, or diabetes. Streptococcal or staphylococcal bacteria enter the skin through a cut, puncture, ulcer, or sore, producing enzymes that break down the skin cells. Erysipelas is a superficial form of cellulitis.
Infants are particularly susceptible to buccal cellulitis, an infection of the skin on the cheek. The infection is characterized by skin discoloration and swelling and is more often misdiagnosed as a bruise. It is caused by any substance that may cause injury to the buccal mucosa, such as popsicles and ice cubes, and prolonged exposure of infants to low temperature. Other infections that are commonly mistaken as buccal cellulitis include erysipelas, severe impetigo, and insect bites.
Orbital cellulitis is a rare, acute infection of the eye socket. It affects primarily children, and the onset is rapid and severe. Bacteria enter the orbit of the eye, often from an infection in the sinuses, a boil on the eye or eyelid, or a foreign object. The soft tissue lining becomes infected. In most cases only one eye is affected. This is an acute and dangerous infection and may require hospitalization and antibiotic treatment.



Causes and Risk Factors of Cellulitis
The lower extremities are the most common site of infection. A skin abnormality (e.g., skin trauma, ulceration, tinea pedis, or dermatitis) often precedes the infection. Scars from saphenous vein removal for cardiac or vascular surgery are common sites for recurrent cellulitis, especially if tinea pedis is present. Frequently, however, no predisposing condition or site of entry is evident.
Streptococcus pyogenes is the most common cause of superficial cellulitis with diffuse spread of infection. Staphylococcus aureus occasionally produces a superficial cellulitis typically less extensive that of streptococcal origin and usually only in association with an open wound or cutaneous abscess. Cellulitis occurring after animal bites may be caused by other bacteria, especially Pasteurella multocida from dogs and cats.

Symptoms of Cellulitis

In cellulitis, the skin becomes red and swollen and is both warm and painful to the touch and is sometimes accompanied by fever, malaise, chills, and headache. If antibiotics are not given, the condition may progress to abscesses (pockets of pus) and tissue damage.
Erysipelas is a superficial form of cellulitis characterized by redness, swelling, vesicles, fever, and pain. It is caused by a species of streptococci, which usually starts with a headache, fever, and general distress, followed by small, red patches that spread and swell so that the border may be easy to see and feel.

Diagnosis of Cellulitis

The diagnosis is usually made by medical history and physical examination alone.


Treatment of Cellulitis

In severe cases, antibiotics may be given intravenously for the first 24 to 72 hours, followed by oral antibiotics. Mild cases may only require oral antibiotics.
In severe cases that progress rapidly or are associated with necrosis (tissue destruction), necrotizing cellulitis-fasciitis is considered. This requires urgent surgical exploration.

Prevention of Cellulitis

Keeping minor abrasions, cuts and bruises clean and free of continued trauma can lessen the likelihood of cellulitis.

Are Vaccinations Good Parenting?

While shopping near the kids section of a clothing store last week, a brochure caught my eye. The front was adorned with a very large picture of a baby caught in wide-eyed surprise. The title read, "Whooping cough sounds scary. Promise me you'll get vaccinated."

As a father of 8, you can bet your britches I want to protect my kids' health. But here's what gets me. This brochure, purporting to be a helpful public health service, is published by Sanofi Pasteur - one of the largest vaccine manufacturers in the world. No conflict of interest there, right?

For those who haven't heard already, the DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis) shot has been linked to autism, SIDs, anaphylactic shock, and other forms of brain damage. Reports for decades showed significant risk for the traditional pertussis component of the shot. This new acellular version of the vaccine is supposed to be less dangerous for kids, yet the same kinds of reports keep coming in from the new vaccine. And we're supposed to make sure our kids get that shot starting at 2 months old?

Here's something to chew on. Japan simply postponed DPT vaccines until age 2 and nearly wiped out incidents of SIDs. And the autism rates among Amish families who refuse to vaccinate? Try nonexistent. 

Granted, the vaccine brochure at the store was promoting booster shots for adults. In Sanofi Pasteur's case they manufacture a Tdap booster vaccine called Adacel�. Don't be confused, it's the same vaccine type with a different order of letters. Anyhow, outside of questionable effectiveness at raising immunity in the first place, there are significant risks for adults as well from vaccine ingredients.

For example, one of the adjuvants (additives used to increase the body's response to the vaccine) in Sanofi Pasteur's own version of the vaccine is aluminum phosphate. This aluminum salt builds up in your body and is associated with Alzheimers and many other neurological disorders. No wonder that America, with one of the world's most highly vaccinated populations at nearly 70 recommended doses of 16 vaccines by age 18, is also home to 25% of the world's cases of Alzheimers.

Another ingredient in their vaccine, along with many others, is formaldehyde. A known carcinogenic (causes cancer), formaldehyde was removed a few years ago from nail polish and is no longer permitted as an ingredient in building insulation. Those are external to the body. They removed formaldehyde due to safety concerns� and they want us to inject it directly into our bloodstream?

In the end, my response to Sanofi Pasteur's "public service" is a big no thanks. Good parenting certainly does not include blindly subjecting yourself or children to what is in essence a massive experiment with numerous reports of deaths and injuries. Take Sanofi Pasteur's advice literally and ask your doctor if the vaccine is right for you. But also do your homework outside of the "mainstream box" before allowing anyone to inject you or your children with the toxic substances found in virtually every vaccine. A good place to begin is at the National Vaccine Information Center.

So are there more natural ways to boost your immune system and stay healthy?
You bet! Here are several I wholeheartedly endorse:

* Avoid sugar, processed foods and trans fats
* Add more garlic, turmeric, ginger and curries to your diet
* Boost antioxidant levels with extra Vitamin C and drinking green and white teas
* Maintain adequate Vitamin D3 levels through sunshine (if you live in south Florida or Hawaii) or supplements
* Consume more Omega-3 fatty acids
* Get a 
full eight hours sleep every night to stay strong and rested
* Manage your stress levels � 
meditation, deep breathing, or hypnosis may help
* 
Exercise regularly, at least 2-3 times every week

One final note to readers in the United States. If you decide to go ahead and immunize yourself or your child and experience any adverse side effect � even if your own doctor tries to convince you that it's not related to the vaccination � be sure to report it to the national Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System registry. Only by hard data will bureaucrats eventually be forced to recognize the significant risks of today's vaccines.

Vaccine Safety

            The premise of vaccines is a good one: modify an infective agent (bacteria, virus) in the laboratory so it is no longer virulent (disease-producing) without destroying its antigenic characteristics (immune-stimulating). When administered, a vaccine will then theoretically not produce the disease but will create immunity to it. 

              The approach is similar to that used in homeopathy whereby the toxin responsible for the disease condition is diluted and administered to stimulate the body to fight the disease. Like fighting like. 

                 But, as always, there are slips between the theory and practice of vaccines. For one thing, because large, not homeopathically small, doses of modified infective agents are in vaccines, the immune system can be taxed. Give several different vaccines and repeat them periodically and the immune system can be exhausted. The immune system has finite, not infinite capacity. The net result can be increased vulnerability to cancer, autoimmunities and other infective agents. 

There is also the problem of route of administration. The normal point of entry for disease agents is across oral, digestive or respiratory mucous membranes. The exposure is usually only to a small number of organisms, maybe even one. In contrast, vaccines are commonly given by injection, bypassing several layers of important immune-stimulating mechanisms with the mucous membrane barriers and can contain tens of thousands of modified disease agents. 

Some vaccines are modified, but are still living. Who is to say what such living creatures do over time when injected into the body in enormous quantities? Viruses are very clever and capable of remarkable change and adaptation. I'm not sure I like the idea of these guys floating around in my body trying to decide how best to attack me. When we take such vaccines, we are volunteering for an experiment. 

           I will not go into a litany here of all the proven dangers of vaccines or enumeration of tragic results. This has been done elsewhere. 

              But here are a couple of new problems. Some vaccines contain high levels of thimerosal mercury. Mercury is a potent toxin and its level in some vaccines exceeds Federal Safety Guidelines. Problems linked to thimerosal include autism and speech disorders, as well as heart disease. A new vaccine is being developed for Alzheimer’s based upon the theory that increased brain plaque is the cause of the disease. However, plaque is not the likely cause, but a symptom (similar to high cholesterol in atherosclerosis), and initial trials of the test vaccine caused 6% of the participants to suffer from severe brain swelling. 

            In the recent effort to prepare the population for bioterrorism, almost 26,000 people were vaccinated with small pox. So far, seven cases of cardiac problems and ten cases of myopericarditis have been associated with the vaccine. Although this temporal association is being downplayed (like smoking being associated with respiratory disease), it is reason for caution. Additionally, the smallpox vaccine is known to cause hypercoagulability, a condition particularly threatening to those with vessel narrowing atherosclerosis. Some researchers believe that the pox vaccine virus (along with a host of other pathogens) has the capability of adhering to the endothelium (lining) of blood vessels. These nodules stimulate an inflammatory response resulting in platelet adhesion, thrombin release and fibrin formation. When this occurs, the vessel is narrowed depriving distal (downstream) tissue from oxygen and creating the ideal anaerobic (oxygen devoid) environment for proliferation of pathogens (infection), neoplasia (cancer) and sclerotic plaque (heart attack, stroke).

               Vaccine mania is caused by misinformation, fear and profit motives. If you believe we have been saved thus far by vaccines for polio, diphtheria and the like, please think again. In almost every case, the vaccine was introduced only after the disease had already naturally declined in the population. Giving credit to the vaccine is like saying the crowing rooster is responsible for the sunrise. 

If you or your children are under pressure to take a vaccine, get fully informed. The safest vaccine would be one that is killed (trusting that has really happened) and is given by the same route (oral or aerosol) that the street form of the disease agent would use to attack. 

            Microbes are ubiquitous. They are in constant contact with us. We cannot escape them by hiding in our homes or wearing facemasks, nor will we eradicate them with disinfectants. In spite of propaganda to the contrary (vaccines are really big money), vaccines will never be the savior of humankind. Their potential risks may even outweigh their benefits when all is said and done. The only cases of polio today, for example, are those caused by the vaccine. 

      Disease has not wiped out all life on the planet because within any given population there is natural resistance. That resistance is optimized in healthy bodies living a healthy lifestyle and that have proper natural nourishment. Health will never be something somebody else gives to us with a pill or injection; it is something we do to ourselves.

How to Teach Your Child to Wash Their Nose Clean, Naturally

               I developed the Nasopure Nasal Wash System with the patented bottle design so children, as well as adults, can wash their noses anywhere. We all know the importance of washing your hands to prevent the spread of germs, that brushing your teeth prevents cavities, and that washing dirty wounds prevents infection. Why don’t we wash our noses too? Probably because it does not sound very glamorous, and because it is not advertised or well known. It is a simple habit we could get used to, just as we can learn to brush our teeth, or get into the habit of changing the filter of our furnace. We should also wash our noses to keep the body’s filter in proper working order. 

            As a pediatrician, I evaluate and treat nose woes every day, most often related to irritants that we inhale. By understanding the anatomy and function of our nose and sinuses, a parent can help make better decisions regarding their child’s nasal health. The nose is the body’s filter. The nasal cavity is lined with mucus membrane which is covered by microscopic hair like filaments called cilia. These cilia help remove or filter the impurities we breathe such as pollen, mold, dust, viruses, bacteria, smoke, pollution and chemicals. The nasal lining also produces mucus when exposed to irritants, and the mucus traps these impurities so they can be removed by blowing them out or swallowing them into the stomach. 

Exposure to irritants causes the cilia to malfunction. The increased mucus being produced then becomes difficult to remove and the mucous membranes become swollen. When the nasal linings swell the middle ear canals, known as Eustachian Tubes, and the sinus openings, which drain into the nasal cavity, become blocked. When this drainage system becomes plugged people end up with painful ears, sore throats, sinus pressure, and coughing from all of the post-nasal drainage. Bacterial love this dark, warm, moist environment and, regardless of the initial cause of the problem, eventually infection will set in. 

               No matter what the initial causative event is, be it allergies, a virus, smoke exposure or other agent, the end result often leads to the perceived need for medications. Medication use among preschool age children has increased over the years. In fact, more than one third of preschoolers are given an over-the-counter medication in any given month. There are over 800 over-the-counter cold and sinus preparations, and yet there is doubt about whether any of these medications are truly beneficial in shortening the course of an illness. I believe we have become so accustomed to using medication in our society that we forget that the use of any medication comes with the risk of adverse reactions. In addition, it is well known now that the overuse of antibiotics contributes to the development of bacterial resistance against the antibiotics we currently have. The Centers for Disease Control has estimated that treatment of infections due to resistant bacteria costs more than $4 billion annually. In addition allergy treatments cost $1.8 billion annually. Each year over $850 million are spent on physician visits and 639 million dollars are lost on productivity, all due to sinus problems. This trend is truly amazing and frankly very scary to me both as a consumer and as a physician.

               As a mother and a doctor, washing the nose makes sense to me. Thousands of patients have told me what I instinctively knew, that washing helps. With daily nasal washing the number of allergy and infection episodes is reduced, and with washing at the first sign of nasal irritation, the duration and intensity of an illness can be reduced. Regular use of nasal washing can reduce the amount of antihistamines, antibiotics and steroid nasal sprays that are needed. A hypertonic solution, one that is saltier than our body’s fluids, is recommended for a nasal wash solution because it the high salt concentration can draw out the congestion from mucous membranes. Such washes have been scientifically studied, and the evidence from those studies supports that washes are easy, effective, safe, without side effects and tolerable, even for kids. 

              Four year old Brianna would often need multiple medications to control her allergy symptoms, due to ongoing ear and sinus problems. I began teaching Brianna about washing the nose by encouraging her to fill the Nasopure bottle with warm water and squirt it while playing in her daily bath. This helped her get the feel of the pressure needed to spray water out the tip. Both mom and I would applaud her efforts. Next, we suggested to her that if she tried to squirt just a bit of water in her nose during bath time, it would help her blow her nose clean. Again, we applauded all of her efforts and told her how she was helping herself by keeping her nose clean. The next step was to play a game and ask if she could make the water come out of the other nostril. Over a 2 year period, Brianna became an expert at washing her nose without any help from her mother. In fact, she is happy to demonstrate for me just how such a little girl can accomplish nasal washing. I would point out that Brianna’s mother was instructed to begin adding small amounts of the salt mixture to the bottle of water at first, and advance the dosage as tolerated. Generally, it takes about 4 to 7 days to tolerate full concentration, which makes the solution hypertonic so it can work most effectively. Brianna’s office visits and medication use have decreased as she perfected her nasal washing technique.

Four year old Sophie had similar problems. In addition however, her speech was affected because of recurrent ear problems which stemmed from her allergies. Of course we looked at environmental controls and her parents did as much as they reasonably could in this regard. Sophie slowly learned to use a nasal rinse much like Brianna. Sophie’s parents tell me that she will sometimes wake up with a stuffy nose and ask for Dr Hana’s wash. Then she steps up to the sink, washes her nose on her own, blows, grunts like a grandpa and walks away saying ‘Now that feels good, I can breathe’. The secret to teaching children is a slow introduction, giving the child all of the control, praising them frequently for little steps and asking them to demonstrate their technique for others.

            If your nose works well for you, don’t wash it. If you have nose problems, I suggest that you try the simple, safe and ancient technique of washing your nose. The first teaching in medical school states that we should ‘first do no harm’. Nasal washing does no harm, and may produce great benefit.

Constipation in toddlers (1-3 year)

Question : MY two-year-old baby girl has been suffering from constipation and has lost her appetite. She only passes motion every two days. The stools are hard and heavy. What can I do to improve her bowel movements? 

Answer : GENERALLY, if the bowel movement is fewer than three times in a week or the bowel movement is regular but the stool is hard or difficult to pass, it is defined as constipated. Symptoms that accompany constipation include bloating, loss of appetite, mild nausea, indigestion, headaches, a coated tongue, tiredness and bad breath. 

Chronic constipation can affect health as the waste remains in the intestines for excessive periods, causing toxins to be formed and absorbed into the body. Constipation happens at all age groups. The underlying causes include lack of fibre in the diet, a high intake of refined carbohydrates and inadequate fluid intake. 

If your baby is having a continuous constipation problem, consider changing her milk to one of soya. Increase her intake of whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruits, which are rich in fibre. Dark green leafy vegetables, papaya, prunes, wheat bran and oat bran are all the effective natural sources that help enhance bowel movement. Give her more water as this helps to soften the stools, making them easier to move through the gastrointestinal tract. 

You may supplement her diet with two clinically proven strains of friendly bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus 5 (LA5) and Bifidobacterium lactis 12 (BB12). Probiotics help to break down food, thus reducing stomach discomfort, improve absorption of nutrients and improve appetite.

Does Your Child Have Constipation?

Child have constipation just like adults and perhaps more often since they don't like to eat food that has a lot of fiber - vegetables and more vegetables. Children with constipation can use the same natural remedies as adults, but in lesser amounts.

You can use these guidelines for children 3 and older. Children should have a bowel movement everyday. It would be best for them to have at least two, if they are eating three meals a day. If your child is having three or less bowel movement per week, it is time to get worried and take action.

If you use some natural remedies, and your child still has only 3 or less bowel movements per week, then its time for you to take your child to see a doctor. Continual constipation can reflect a more serious condition, especially if your child is eating the foods that promote natural bowel movements.

Here is a list of things that you can do for your child with constipation. In fact, these recommendations are also good for you if you have constipation.

1. Drink more water - children are very active and will perspire more than an adult during the day and lose water. If the body needs water it will take from the stools and make them hard and difficult to expel.
2. Eat more fiber - fruits and vegetables is where the fiber is. Using artificial fiber and laxative products is not a good idea. The body can become dependent on these products and lose its bowel sensitive and colon wall tone.
3. Having a bowel movement when it is time - teach your children to go to the bathroom when they get the urge. A lot of times they will put it off if they are playing or doing something they like. Putting it off will de-sensitize the colon and it will stop giving the bowel movement signal after a time. This will lead to constipation.
4. Use natural products that promote bowel movements - there are many fruits and vegetables that promote bowel movements. Use these as snacks. In cases where you use a natural remedy that is bitter, remind your child that it is medicine to help them go to the bathroom more frequently.

Drinking Water

Have your constipated child drink more water throughout the day. Use distilled water. Minimize the use of sodas, tea, and sweeten juices, as these are not water. Eating fruits and vegetable provide the body with distilled water since they contain up to 70% water. Drink unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices provide water and promote bowel movements.

Eating Fruits and Vegetables

The best time to give your child fruits is in the morning. From the time they wake up to noontime is when the body is detoxifying. Heavy foods like meat, milk, cereal, and eggs hinder the detoxifying process. Fruits and their juices accelerate the detoxifying process and promote bowel movement, provided no protein or carbohydrates are eaten. A good breakfast is simply a bowel of fruit. A glass of juice can also be provided.

When in season use a big bowl of watermelon and cantaloupe slices. Otherwise, use a variety of seasonal fruits. Use fruits as a snack between meals. But do not give fruits after a meal as desert. Wait 2-3 hours after a meal before giving fruit. This helps digestion and promotes bowel movements.

Vegetables should be eaten with each meal at noontime and dinner. Vegetables provide water, fiber, and an array of minerals and vitamins necessary for good digestion and colon function.

To make the salad more appealing for your child add raisins or pieces of apple to it.

Child Dental Health

You should start taking care of your child�s dental health even before the child�s first tooth comes in. To begin with, wipe your baby's gums with a soft damp cloth after feedings. That helps to prevent the buildup of bacteria. When teeth begin to show up, start using a soft children's toothbrush twice a day.

As your child reaches preschool age, brush his teeth with a tiny quantity of fluoride toothpaste. Kids have a tendency to swallow toothpaste, and too much fluoride can lead to permanent stains on their teeth. Fluoride strengthens teeth by hardening the tooth enamel. If your tap water lacks fluoride, your doctor may prescribe daily fluoride tablets when your child is about six months old. Although fluoride is a vital part of your child's dental health, its overuse should be avoided. 

Children generally suffer from cavities, i.e., holes that are formed when bacteria in one�s mouth use the sugar in food to make acid which eats away at the teeth. To prevent cavities, avoid giving your child too many sugary foods like raisins, cookies and candy, and sweet drinks like fruit juice. If your child was born prematurely, weighed very little at birth, has ongoing special health care needs or has white spots or brown areas on any teeth, he/she might develop cavities. 

All family members should take care of their teeth, as they can pass the cavity-causing bacteria to children. Apart from brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, everyone should see the dentist twice a year. 

Avoid giving your child sweets, sticky foods and between-meal snacks. Follow a regular schedule for meals and snacks. Fresh fruits and vegetables, and cheese and crackers are good for teeth. Do not let your child walk around with a bottle, and teach him to use a drinking cup as soon as possible. Thumb sucking is normal for children unless it persists after age 4. It is advised that parents take their child to a dentist around his first birthday.

Cancer - The Missing Point

If one were to judge by television advertising and news reports, it would seem that the “war on cancer” is all but won. What are the weapons being heralded? Drugs, research, tests and exams. They miss the point. 

“Prevention” is promoted as meaning catching the disease early. Really. That also misses the point. Is it “prevention” if you call 911 when you come home and see smoke billowing from all your windows? Do we just live with a carpe diem philosophy and wait for the doctor to tell us we have a lump in our breast or a swollen nodular prostate? Is the cause of cancer a lack of one of the new cancer drugs? Is the cause of cancer really unknown, requiring endless research? 

First, let me put to rest the propaganda that the war is being won. Since President Nixon declared the war (1971) and after over 200 billion dollars have been spent on research (remember, one billion is a thousand million), more Americans will die of cancer in the next 14 months than have died in all U.S. wars ever fought combined! (Where are the protest marches?) Soon, cancer will overtake heart disease as the number one killer. 

Decades ago, early in the war, there were some dramatic successes such as with Hodgkin's disease and some forms of childhood leukemia. There can be little doubt that debunking (surgical removal) of large cancers brings benefits. But the big killers such as colorectal, lung, prostate and breast cancer remain as threatening as ever. Survival gains are measured primarily in additional months (not years) added to life, not in cures. The placebo effect is by and large ignored. (People getting a sugar pill placebo in cancer studies have been known to lose their hair and some actually cure themselves by simply thinking they will be cured.) Statistics can always be massaged to create the result desired. This practice is rampant in cancer research. Animal models (euphemism for real living and feeling caged creatures being tortured by the millions) do not prove effectiveness across species boundaries to humans. Neither do laboratory cell lines. That's why all the "breakthroughs" based on tumor shrinkage never pan out. For-profit drug companies and National Cancer Institute grant-based research ignore metastases (the spreading cells of cancer through the body) in their positive reports. Instead they highlight and focus on more easily obtained lab results, such as "tumor shrinkage,” and on easily manipulated clinical data such as "five-year survival." 

Twelve new "improved" drugs introduced in Europe between 1995 and 2000 were no better than the drugs they replaced. But the prices were all higher, in one instance by a factor of 350 times. One new "revolutionary" drug, Erbituxâ„¢, found to "shrink" tumors but not extend the lives of patients at all costs $2,400 per week. Avastinâ„¢, another costly chemotherapeutic, by the best calculation, extended the lives of 400 colorectal patients by 4.7 months. Tamoxifinâ„¢ is proven to be effective in decreasing breast cancer. Risk is decreased by about 15% but what is not equally heralded is the fact that it increased the risk of endometrial uterine cancer by about 15%. Are such results worth the financial devastation and miserable life that chemotherapy, radiation and surgery impose? Is that the way to spend one's remaining days? If such therapy does add a couple of months, are those couple of months really worth the poking, prodding, pain, unrelenting nausea, disfiguring, destruction of the immune system and increased susceptibility to other diseases? "Yes" would be a hard answer to justify. 

In the face of a cancer diagnosis most people just throw up their hands in terror and surrender to the conventional cancer therapy death process. The feeling is that something must be done, and, since "doctors know best," one must begin the "fight" by following the advice of the doctor. But fighting does not mean surrendering to the will of another person who has their own personal agenda and narrowed field of view dictated by the club they belong to. That misses the point. You must do something. 

Here's the on-point best approach:
1. Prevention means adjusting your life right now so that you are living in tune with your design. Cancer is, quite simply, the reaction of cells subjected long enough to an environment they are not designed for. The genetic apparatus loses its bearings, becomes insane, if you will, and regresses to embryonic infancy and just begins multiplying recklessly. What is the proper environment? 3. Think about what has happened in your life that has caused the disease. It is caused, it does not just happen. Correct your life. 

4. You take control of your own body and you make the decisions. Determine to set right what is wrong and do it. Taking control is essential to not feeling like a helpless victim and sinking into hopeless despair – a sure mindset to speed the disease along. 

5. Think long and hard before submitting to unproven cancer therapies. If the doctor cannot prove effectiveness (at least prove that you will be better off with the therapy than without) and if you are not willing to take the risk of all the contraindications, then don't submit because you think it is "all that can be done." It isn't. See #2 above. 

All good things in life are hard. In our modern world, good health takes effort and attention. Preventing and reversing disease also takes effort – your effort. Begin today to take charge of your health and be the best you can be. Most chronic degenerative diseases have long latency periods, the time between when the disease begins and it manifests in overt symptoms. Natural Effective Solutions:

1. Carefully observe guidelines for healthy eating. Avoid as much as possible cooked oils, white flour, meat, white sugar, and any foods, which have been over processed or have chemical additives.

2. Eat whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruits and a little raw unheated vegetable oil each day.

3. Occasional fasting helps to purify the blood vessels. One could fast on apples, pears or brown rice or do a juice fast for a few days. If one wants to do a longer fast, consult your doctor. Fasting on grapes is considered one of the most effective ways to purify the blood.

4. Vitamins and antioxidants help with better circulation: A, C, E, and Lecithin, B complex (especially B3, B2).

Withings WiFi Body Scale Review

      

   I like to keep track of stuff. All kinds of stuff… I keep a text file where I add notes for all kinds of things that I don’t want to forget. Since I have a horrible memory, this text file comes in handy quite often. I also keep a list of books that I’ve read, trips I’ve taken, my A1C readings (I’m a diabetic) and my weight. Ever since I lost 25 lbs after learning I was diabetic, I’ve been somewhat obsessed with maintaining my weight. My typical routine is that I get up in the morning, weigh myself, get a shower, get dressed, go to work and at some point during the morning, I add my weight to a Google document. Remember that I mentioned that memory is horrible? Well, that sometimes causes issues with me recording my daily weight. I’ll start to type it in and think… hmmmm, was it 129.9 today or was it 130.2? When I first discovered theWithings WiFi Body Scale, I was so excited because I’d never have to worry if I was remembering the right weight. It would do all the work for me. Perfect!
               A scale with WiFi built in? Wow, what will they think of next? Seriously, this a regular scale that you step on to weigh yourself. It also records your body fat percentage and displays your BMI. The cool thing is that it transmits the data to your account on the Withings site and / or other sites like Google Health, Twitter, etc.

The Withings WiFi scale looks really sexy. It’s very contemporary with a shiny glass slab top.
On the back is an easy to access battery chamber.
o start using the scale, you load the batteries and then connect one end of the included USB cable to the connector next to the battery compartment and the other end to your PC or Mac. Navigate to http://start.withings.com/ with your browser and you are able to quickly able to setup the scale to pair with the Withings website. I had no issues getting mine up and running in less than 5 minutes.The next step is to setup your account with your age, gender, height and weight info. The great thing is that up to 8 people can use the scale. That’s more than enough for a typical family.When the batteries are installed and the scale has been setup through your WiFi connection, it’s ready for your first weigh-in. Cue up the theme song for Biggest Loser, put some pressure on the scale with one foot so that the 2.4 x 1.6 inch White on Black LCD display lights up with flashing 0.0 lbs and then step off. This is the calibration part of the weigh-in. When the 0.0 digits stop flashing, step back on the scale to see your weight. If you want the scale to include your body fat measurement, make sure you are barefoot.
The LCD will first display your weight, then your body fat in % or pounds (this can be customized by you) and then your BMI (body mass index).
        The body fat information is measured through invisible electrodes on the surface of the scale. When you step on them with your bare feet, your body’s impedance is measured. A small and harmless electrical current is passed through your body. The electrical current passes more quickly through fat free tissue like muscle than it does through fat or bone tissue. The amount of resistance to the electrical current relates to how much fat-free mass a person has and their body density. It’s hard to say just how accurate this measurement is, but it’s best to just use it to monitor changes and not get hung up on the actual body fat number that you’re given.
After you’ve weighed, hop off the scale, go to your computer, login to your Withings account page and you’ll be greeted with some nifty graphs… or you will after you’ve weighed in several times. Each day’s weigh in will include your weight, body fat, lean mass and BMI info. Best of all, you didn’t have to remember the numbers as they were automatically recorded for you.
It even includes the same nifty graphs.
If you set an objective (goal weight that you want to reach), you can also receive a weekly email that tells you how you are progressing to your goal.
I haven’t had any issues with the scale since the first firmware update was installed that allowed it to calibrate. Before that happened, the scale would sometimes show my weight as 4 pounds over what it should have been. I later learned that this was due to it including the weight of the scale itself in with my weight. I’ve only ran into one other issue that is probably operator related. I live in a 2 person household, so we have 2 different accounts on the scale. I haven’t had any issues with stepping on the scale, waking it up and then measuring my weight. However, my housemate seems to always have problems getting the 0.0 calibration to come up. That said, she also has problems turning on the TV… sorry Jeanne ;)
I really am enjoying using the Withings WiFi Body Scale. It’s great to have my data automatically stored for me every time I use it. It motivates me to weigh every morning so that I can check the graphs to make sure I’m staying steady or not going up in weight.
